Fellowship Call and Backup

OB Call and OBAC Schedule

Call during the 6 months of obstetrics is every 4th day.  It is 24 hour in-house call followed by a day off after rounding duties are completed.  There will generally not be any OB call assignments during electives, vacations, or CME. However, situations may arise that warrant call coverage from a fellow on an elective, should a colleague on the OB service become ill or have an emergency. It is expected that another fellow or upper level resident will cover call by mutual agreement under these conditions.  Call coverage may be negotiated for high priority practice search, vacation, or CME, but these are not typically requested during OB months.  If changes occurs, it is mandatory to inform the Fellowship Director, OBAC Medical Director, and the Fellowship Coordinator so appropriate schedule changes are made and all the departments, staff and attendings affected are notified of the changes. In the event that no one volunteers, the Program Director, Fellowship Director, or OBAC Medical Director reserve the right to assign another fellow to cover call.

Fellow Coverage for Resident Retreat and Graduation

The fellows will provide coverage for the resident retreat weekend in January or February. This will include the Tacoma Family Medicine obstetric and inpatient services. The fellows will also cover the residents' services the night of their graduation, usually held the last Friday of June. It is the fellows' responsibility to work out the details of coverage with each other in cooperation with the Fellowship Coordinator so that notice can be given in a timely fashion to the appropriate departments and attendings.  In exchange, residents cover the Fellows' Retreat and graduation.
